Investing in Children relies on volunteers to make the work we do in our community possible. We have volunteer opportunities throughout London and the surrounding area that include weekly programs, special events and administrative tasks.

Volunteering with Investing in Children can help you develop job skills, make contacts in the community and meet new friends. High school students can also gain valuable experience for university and college applications and complete their 40-hour volunteer requirement.

Some of the volunteer opportunities with Investing in Children include:

In The Know Tutoring

Investing in Children recruits, screens, trains and places volunteers into schools that are in need of assistance. Once in a school, the school staff will work with you to determine where your help is needed most and will create a volunteer schedule that fits within your other commitments. Depending on the school's needs, you may help with one-on-one reading programs, homework and tutoring or supporting a school club.

Volunteers must have a police check completed and commit to at least one hour a week throughout the school year.

Family Literacy Events

Investing in Children's theme-based Family Literacy Events address literacy needs for children in grades JK-3 and their families in a fun and interactive way. The literacy events run from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at schools across London and are held three times a year.

Each event begins with a theme-based story time with the Principal from the school. Families then move on to volunteer-led activities that focus on language, math, science and gross motor skills and are all related to the event's theme. Families are given healthy refreshments and leave the program with lots of take-home materials to help them extend this learning into the home.

Dates and locations for the events vary each year and training will be provided on-site. Volunteer commitment is flexible with a minimum commitment of two hours.

Special Olympics

Every June, over 900 athletes with developmental disabilities and their peer mentors take part in the Thames Valley Track and Field Event at TD Waterhouse Stadium. Students develop their physical fitness, have fun and increase their confidence. Training will be provided on-site and commitment is flexible.
