Executive Director's Message from the 2012 AGM
It is with pleasure that I deliver my Executive Director’s message in this our thirteenth year since the inception of Investing in Children. Our organization continues to grow, demonstrate leadership and commitment to making a difference in the lives of children and families in our community.
Our community as a whole is changing. We are standing united in an effort to make great changes for children, youth and their families in our community. Through the eyes of the Child and Youth Network, we are dreaming big dreams for what we want our community to look like and Investing in Children is playing a vital role in this endeavor.
What is it that makes all of this possible? One needs to “dare to dream.” How will we ever make changes for children, youth and families unless we have dreamed about what we want the final outcome to look like? No child should have to grow up in poverty, struggling to have everyday essentials met…No child should have to worry about whether or not there will be food on the table, in their lunches…No child should have worry that they might develop high Blood pressure, type 2 diabetes because the food choices that they are being given are not healthy ones nor are they being physically active…No child should be embarrassed because they do not have the literacy skills to keep up with their classmates…No child should have to grow up without the service and supports around them to help them to become all that they were meant to be.
So we are dreaming big. We are working our way there even if the path is not quite clear. We are taking one step at a time while supporting one another so that no one falters. This has been the way of Investing in Children from the beginning. We identify gaps and through the collective passion, integrity and creativity of our staff and volunteers we make it happen. The team at Investing in Children and that includes our dedicated staff and Board of Directors, tireless volunteers and incredible supporters all believe that change can happen and positive results will follow. We recognize that all progress is nothing more than invisible creativity made visible.
As we look forward to the coming year, we will keep this in mind. We will continue to be responsive and dedicated to the needs of children and families in our community. It is an honour to serve as the Executive Director and I look forward to another rewarding year ahead!
Respectfully Submitted,
Anita Gilvesy
