A Message from the
Executive Director
As the days grow longer, we can
take comfort in knowing that Spring is around the corner.
This also means many exciting initiatives taking place at
Investing in Children.
If you are looking for something
to do over the March Break join us at Cherryhill Mall for
our Book Sale March 15-17. I am sure that there will be something
there for everyone!
Plans are well underway for our
Leadership Conference. This year’s theme will focus
on tangible skills that students can take back to their schools
and implement through innovative projects. Make sure that
you mark April 25 on your calendar and check out our web site
for information on Kids First Day. This year we have new partners
joining us for this day when we celebrate the great things
happening in London for children and their families.
Enjoy reading our emailer and
thank you for your continued support. Together we can make
a difference in the lives of children in our community.

Community
Service Clubs

“I feel
nice and happy we raised the money to help the kids at the
Sick Kids Hospital.” - Shahbano
“I feel nice and I
always wanted to give to the Sick Kids Hospital. I love to
share.” - Blinera
Once again this
year, students in Investing in Children's Community Service
Clubs are working hard to make a positive impacts on their
schools and communities.
One highlight has
been the Northbrae Community Service Club, seen in the photo
above. After their very successful fund raising bake sale,
the students were looking for something unique to do with
their proceeds. After much discussion, and a number of great
ideas, they agreed as a group that they wanted to do something
for the children at the Children's Hospital. The students
purchased plenty of toys, and used their creative skills to
decorate shoe boxes. These gifts will be delivered to the
Children's Hospital, and are certain to bring smiles to the
faces of the children who receive them.
This generosity
and community spirit is just one example of the positive impact
the Community Service Clubs are having, not only the participating
students, but for the community as a whole.
Thank you to the
ING Foundation, Libro Financial Group and National Crime Prevention
for their support of Investing in Children's Community Service
Clubs.
Fruit
and Vegetable Pilot Project
The Ontario Student Nourishment
Program, in conjunction with the Children’s Nutrition
Network, is excited to announce a Fruit and Vegetable Pilot
for elementary schools across the London District Catholic
School Board.
Over 12 weeks, beginning the
week of February 19, more than 12,000 students at 47 elementary
schools will participating in the FAVES (Fruit & Veggies
for Every Student) Pilot Program, receiving healthy Ontario-grown
fruit and vegetable snacks 3-4 times per week.
This project is part of an evaluation
being administered by the Ontario Student Nutrition Program
in partnership with Agri-food Canada.
Minister Chris Bentley will celebrate the kick off of the
FAVES pilot Friday March 9 at St. Martin School in London.
Community
Art Projects

It's an exciting
time for Investing in Children's Community Art Projects.
The #1 Project at Northbrae Public School is
nearly complete, with over 400 student-decorted #1s, including
what each student feels they are number one at, are being
assembled into four large murals which will hang in the school.
The response from the students and staff at Northbrae has
been fantastic, and the students have been very creative in
figuring out what to put on their #1.
The students in
Ealing Public School's new after-school program are also joining
us a new community art project. The students are creating
a 3D mural depicting their neighbourhood as a safe community.
On the horizon is
the first Community Art Project we are working on in partnership
with the City of London's Community Centres. Working with
students from nearby schools and the staff at Carling Heights
Optimist Centre, we will be creating a series of colourful
kites that will hang in the lobby in the two-story atrium.
Work on this project will begin in April.
At the completion
of the Carling Heights Kite Project, we will be working with
two other Community Centres on unique new art projects.
