It looks as if Spring is finally in the air and with that comes a flurry of activities here at Investing
in Children. This e-mailer will highlight some the many projects coming up over the next few months. As always, we appreciate the
support that we
receive from the community, our partners and volunteers.
We are excited about the new partnerships and participation by community organizations and businesses for our second
annual Kids First Day. This is truly a celebration of all of the wonderful things happening here in London
for children and their families. This year,
some of the activities will be tied in with London’s sesquicentennial celebrations.
Investing in Children is also fortunate to be part of a larger collaborative with Orchestras Canada and the Ontario
Provincial Planners in bringing to London a Creative Cities conference June 8-10. This conference will see a stellar line-up of speakers
explore the role
that arts, culture and creativity play in increasing the quality of life and economic growth in communities. We invite all of you to
join us to explore the possibilities that this conference is sure to present.
Sincerely
Anita Gilvesy
Executive Director

Kids First Day, on April 20, will once again celebrate all of the wonderful organizations and opportunities
available to London's families. This year, families will be able to choose from events and activities at nearly 50 locations, plus
a community-spanning Scavenger Hunt. For a complete list of event locations and times, please click here or
look in the London Free Press or The Londoner.
New for this year is a promotional partnership with Energy 103. Listen for Investing in Children staff
and Kids First Day partners leading up to the day, and special coverage of Kids First Day from Maggie's on April 20.
Investing in Children will be presenting two activities on Kids First Day.
In partnership with the London Public Library and The Londoner, will be enveiling our Sesquicentennial Scavenger Hunt on Kids First
Day. The challenge is to identify the landmarks and buildings in 30 pictures taken throughout London. But naturally,
the photo's aren't exactly easy! The winning family will receive a digital camera donated by Black's Westmount.
We've also added an additional challenge for school classrooms. Each picture will include a number of
trivia questions that explore London's 150 years of history. Classes will be invited to work together to research the answers to
these questions for the chance to win a special prize package. The winning classroom will
receive a single-use camera for each student donated by Black's Westmount and Westmount Shopping Centre and a pizza lunch from
Domino's Pizza.
Contest will be launched with a special insert published in The Londoner. The printed photos
will be displayed at the London Public Library, Central Branch and on our website at www.investinginchildren.on.ca. All entries must be submitted by Friday, June 10, 2005.
Second, we will also be hosting the 10th annual Kids Power Youth Leadership Conference at the Central
Branch Library. Students selected from schools representing both the TVDSB and the LDCSB will hear speakers and take part in workshops
that
develop
and improve their leadership skills.

What is your vision for London?
Do you see a city where culture and creativity thrive?
A destination for talented and educated workers who are happy to raise their

Investing in Children, in partnership with Orchestras Canada & the Ontario Professional Planners
Institute, will explore the role that art, culture and creativity play in increasing quality of life and economic growth in communities

many different facets of this theme over two days. The conference will launch on June 8 with a gala evening featuring keynote speaker
Charless Landry.
