OEYC Launch

On October 18, 2002, London's three Ontario Early Years Centres will celebrate their official grand openings with an assortment of fun activities for local families.

The Ontario Early Years Centres are a place for parents and caregivers of children aged 0-6 to get information they need about their children's development, and about services to support that development.

Each Ontario Early Years Centre offers early learning and literacy programs, programs to support parents and caregivers in all aspects of early child development, programs for new parents, and links to other early years programs in the community. Through the centres, all families in Ontario have access to early years services that help give children a healthy start in life.

With each of London's three centres now established in its permanent location, the time has arrived to celebrate! On October 18th, each centre will welcome families to visit and explore the centres, and to take part in different activities.

OEYC London West, located on the upper floor near Zellers in the Westmount Shopping Centre, will have a spicy performance by the Antonio Alas Mariachi Band, a children's choir and other activities in the centre.

OEYC London North Centre, at 265 Maitland St., will feature storytelling throughout the morning, including Diane Halpin at 10:00 am. The children and parents will also help to create a colourful mural of handprints to celebrate the opening.

OEYC London Fanshawe, at 1892 Dundas St. E., will start the day with a breakfast for Centre staff and the construction workers who will be working right up until the 18th to get the centre ready for the community. Once the doors open at 9:30, there will be storytelling, a "name the guinea pig" contest, and the families will create fish to hang from the ceiling.

At the end of the day, community partners, invited guests and staff from all three centres will come together at the Civic Gardens Complex for a joint celebration of the Early Years launch and to mark their shared look ahead to excellent opportunities for parents and children aged 0-6.
