FamilyInfo.ca

London-Middlesex is a vibrant community with ample resources available, both public and private, to parents and families. Here's the catch though: how do you find out what's being offered in your area, especially if you are new to the city? You could drive around to a number of different locations, pick up dozens of brochure and flyers, spend hours on the phone calling countless organizations, and ultimately you'd end up with a great pile of information. But that's not an effective use of your time, especially if you are caring for your young children as well.

What if you could load up a single website, select a few options, and create a customized list of programs, locations, and information pulled from a comprehensive database? If that sounds appealing, then Familyinfo.ca is the website for you!

FamilyInfo.ca is an innovative new community project, a launch point for information on services, programs and supports for children 0-6 years of age.

The concept behind FamilyInfo.ca began two years ago, through a group of community members on the Early Years Resource Action Committee. It has evolved and grown, currently with Investing in Children acting as the lead organization, culminating in the imminent launch of the website.

The centrepiece of the website is an extensive, searchable database, containing more than one thousand entries covering the City of London and Middlesex County.

Each entry in the database includes information on geographic area and appropriate ages for children, as well as being categorized by type, providing a number of different search options. Categories include community services, cultural groups, crisis lines and government services.

Search results will be displayed in a printer-friendly format, allowing users to generate their own customized "pamphlet" of services.

The information is drawn from a number of sources, most importantly, the agencies, service providers and organizations themselves, who will also ensure that information in the database is accurate and up-to-date.

FamilyInfo.ca is not intended to reproduce or duplicate anything that already exists; in fact, efforts have been made to establish partnerships and links with similar projects in the community. The end result will be strengthened information network, and a wealth of available information to London-Middlesex families.
